The Columbia County Board of Commissioners will hear several items at its meeting on Tuesday, May 16 concerning development and planning.
The first is a conditional use permit for a place of worship at 102 S. Bel Air Road. According to the agenda document, John Duncan said a variance was being sought that does not significantly affect anything and the main concern was the retention pound on the property.
“Owner Faith Outreach Church, Inc. and applicant Marcelino Sanchez requests a conditional use for a place of worship for property located at 102 South Belair Road, tax map 073C parcel 017, 1.81 +/- acres, and currently zoned C-2 (General Commercial),” according to the agenda document. “This request was triggered by a site plan for a proposed 10,000 square foot, two story building on the site. Since the existing use is nonconforming, a conditional use is required for the expansion. The applicant has provided an addendum for the site describing the place of worship, as well as the site plan showing the proposed expansion. A companion variance (VA23-05-02) has been requested to reduce the rear buffer on the site. The property is located in the Belair/Columbia Node Protection Overlay District.
There were no comments or concerns from the planning commission. The staff is recommending approval.
Commissioners will also consider a request for a conditional use permit for a tattoo parlor at 308 Commerce Drive.
The planning commission is recommending approval of the conditional relationship with the condition that tattooing is limited to one suite at the location at a time, according to the agenda document.
“They will offer tattoo and piercing services, with three tattoo artists on site,” according to an agenda document. “The studio will be open Wednesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and would be closed Mondays and Tuesdays. The applicants have submitted that this is a favorable location for their use since it is next to the Rack & Grill pool hall and near several other tattoo shops.”
Under the consent agenda to consider for approval is the intergovernmental lease agreement with the Development Authority of Columbia County, canceling the July 4 Board of Commissioners meeting, reappointment of Chief Jeremy Wallen to the Region Six EMS Commission, and the renewal of several contracts and agreements.
Commissioners will also hear from Priscilla Bence during public comment about the library and Ming Lin about eminent domain.
There will also be a proclamation presented to Larry Wiggins, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary for National Safe Boating Week, which is May 20-26.
The Columbia County Board of Commissioners will meet Tuesday, May 16 at 6 p.m. in the Evans Government Center auditorium. The agenda for the meeting can be found online.
