A bus driver and a three students were hospitalized Monday after a truck struck a deer and swerved into the path of the bus on White Oak Road in Appling.
Authorities say a Ford F250 driven by Hunter Moon of Warrenton was traveling east on White Oak Road when a deer entered the roadway, causing the front of the F250 to strike the deer.
“The driver of the F250 then lost control of the vehicle traveling into the oncoming lane,” sheriff’s Maj. Steve Morris said by email.
The Columbia County school bus was traveling west on White Oak Road. The school bus attempted to swerve to avoid the F250, but struck the right side of the F250 with the front of the school bus.
“The school bus was loaded with students and there were four non-life threatening injuries reported,” Maj. Morris said. “Three students and the bus driver were transported for injuries sustained in the collision.”
