Columbia County District Attorney Bobby Christine is about to formally change hats temporarily and travel to Washington D.C. after receiving notice he is being called up to active service in the U.S. Army National Guard.

Christine, 55, began serving in the National Guard straight out of high school at age 17 and has attained the rank of Major General.

According to a press release, Christine notified the Columbia County commission that he will be traveling to the nation’s capital on Feb.8 and will remain there for an undetermined amount of time.

With the flurry of executive orders produced daily by the Trump Administration pertaining to border policy, a robust emphasis is being placed on the National Guard since it acts as sort of a “hub” between the Department of Defense, Department of Justice and Department of Homeland Security. Christine will be serving in his capacity as a National Guard attorney.

Christine, who has served as Columbia County’s district attorney since says that his active duty call will not affect the day-to-day operations of the District Attorney’s Office as those operations will be supervised by the office’s leadership team in consultation with Christine.

“I have absolute confidence in the abilities and professionalism of our leadership team in the District Attorney’s Office. In consultation with me, they will carry out the duties of the office without interruption,” Christine said.
