CVS drugstore at the corner of Wrightsboro and Jackson Roads has permanently closed its doors.
According to an open records request filed with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, the location has had 20 incidents within the last two years. More than half of the incidents involved theft. Several other reports were related to homeless people and panhandling.
Amy Thibault the director of communications for CVS responded via email stating, “Maintaining access to pharmacy services in the communities we serve is an important factor we consider when making store closure decisions. Other factors include local market dynamics, population shifts, a community’s store density, and ensuring there are other geographic access points to meet the needs of the community, including COVID-19 testing and vaccinations.”
All of the prescriptions for the location were transferred to the 2703 Washington Road location, according to Thibault.
“We have five CVS Pharmacy locations remaining in Augusta, including our 2703 Washington Road store, which features a MinuteClinic and CVS HealthHUB offering expanded health and wellness products and services,” she said.
Thibault did not respond to further questions as to why the store closed.
A November 2021 news release from CVS corporate indicated the company would be closing stores nationwide.
“The company has been evaluating changes in population, consumer buying patterns and future health needs to ensure it has the right kinds of stores in the right locations for consumers and for the business. As part of this initiative, CVS Health will reduce store density in certain locations and close approximately 300 stores a year for the next three years. The company is committed to offering impacted colleagues roles in other locations or different opportunities as part of its overall workforce strategy. These changes will begin in the spring of 2022,” the release said.
