For 16 years, every Imperial Theatre season has had at least one Ed Turner and Number 9 concert scheduled.

The hugely popular band wasn’t able to play the Imperial last fall, and it doesn’t look like the band will play there any time soon. Instead, the group’s sold-out concert from 2013 will be screened as a fundraiser for the theater, according to Charles Scavullo, theater manager.

“This is our first foray into the virtual world,” he said.

Titled “Sweet 16: Get Back to the Beatles,” the concert celebrates the 16th anniversary of the founding of the Number 9 band. Ed Turner will be the emcee for the web concert.

As indicated by the title, the concert features the music of the Beatles.

Tickets are $25 and are good for as many people as can safely fit in someone’s living room, Scavullo said. Tickets can be purchased online at www.imperialtheater.com and a link will be sent to the purchaser to watch the feed at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30.

Proceeds will benefit the Imperial Theatre.

While the pandemic has shuttered the theater for most of the past year, Scavullo said the facility staff has been able to use the down time for much needed repairs. The balcony recently received a facelift with new paint and seats.

Thanks to a grant from the Georgia Council for the Arts, the Imperial was able to purchase a new lighting board. The theater was one of 77 entities to be awarded a grant in October 2020.

One of the next projects for the theater is to update its marquee’s video screens. The screens were installed in 2006, and finding parts for them is difficult as the technology is out-of-date.

Scavullo said most of the groups that use the theater hope to return to the  stage in August, and he anticipates a busy fall should predictions concerning the virus come true.
