An Evans Middle School bus driver had to be evaluated after being struck by an unknown object on Wednesday, March 12.
According to a notice sent out to parents, the bus driver of school bus 1701, route 6, had to pull over onto the side of Hereford Farm Road after being hit in the back of the head by an unknown object.
First responders arrived on the scene to check on the driver, while another bus driver finished the route. The incident is under investigation to determine who is responsible for the incident.
“Safety of students and staff is a top priority. Please note, school buses are an extension of the classroom and we encourage our parents to please speak with your children about the importance of appropriate behavior while on the school bus. Suspicious behavior should be reported to a teacher, administrator, or the Columbia County School District Police Department. If you see something, say something. Working together we can continue to provide a safe, positive environment for students and staff,” the notice said.
In other Columbia County School District news, a Grovetown Middle School student was found with a toy gun on campus. After a report was made, the gun was found in the student’s possession. The item was shown to students at a bus stop, but no threats were made, a notice to parents said. The student is being held responsible according to the code of conduct.
