The U.S. Army Cyber Center of Excellence welcomed its first active-duty Deputy Commanding General in a ceremony Friday, Sept. 6, at the Eisenhower Conference and Catering Center on post.
Noting the many changes visible on post and the importance of the Cyber Center of Excellence (CCOE) to the Army, Commanding General Maj. Gen. Ryan Janovic welcomed Brig. Gen. Mark Miles before a small gathering of local community leaders, Fort Eisenhower leadership and CCOE staff.
“Our Army, our United States Army, is transforming. It is transforming while doing its mission, while actively supporting operations abroad, while fighting through the demands that we have while facing a potential near peer threat,” said Janovic. “Our Army is transforming, and Fort Eisenhower is a central part of that transformation.”
In addition to welcoming an Army National Guard Deputy Commanding General, Friday’s ceremony marked the transformation of leadership at CCOE by now having an active-duty one-star general charged with integrating doctrine, training and policy across the U.S. Army’s cyber, signal and electromagnetic warfare capabilities.

No stranger to the Central Savannah River Area, Miles was first assigned to Fort Gordon in 1995 as a young second lieutenant to be a signaleer. The CSRA is also where Miles met his future wife, now retired Col. Melissa Miles of Aliquippa Pa.
Having completed three deployments in Afghanistan and spending 29 years supporting multiple operations and deployments, Miles is returning to his Army roots at Fort Eisenhower.
After being provided a unit patch, a commanding general’s belt and a sizable amount of unit coins to use for recognizing soldiers, Miles said during the ceremony.
“I am very excited, and a little nervous. I think that goes with the excitement, but really excited to join the team and rejoin this community,” said Miles.
