A Fort Gordon soldier is dead after being struck by lightning Wednesday.
At about 11:10 a.m. Fort Gordon Range Control reported that 10 soldiers sustained injuries associated with a lightning strike at one of its training areas, according from an email from Anne Bowman, Fort Gordon’s deputy public affairs officer.
Fort Gordon’s Department of Emergency Services and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene immediately.
At 7:03 p.m., Bowman sent out a second email which stated it was with a “heavy heart Fort Gordon” confirmed the death.
The identity of the soldier has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
