Date: July 04, 2022

Col. Shaw Pick could sum up what made him most proud of his time as Fort Gordon’s garrison commander in three words.

“We didn’t stop,” said Pick at Thursday’s Fort Gordon’s change of command ceremony at Gordon’s Catering and Conference Center.

Despite the challenges related to COVID-19 through its waves and variations, the work of the garrison continued and progressed.

After relinquishing the garrison’s colors, Pick addressed the crowd at the center. He thanked dozens of people for their efforts during his time. Many of his remarks drew laughs including his comment to the “half dozen former Fort Gordon garrison commanders” who remain in the area.

“You can tell Reg how to do his job now,” he said.

Pick said he planned to move to 1,400 square feet on the West Coast and drive his Harley.

During the ceremony, outgoing garrison commander Col. Shaw Pack relinquished the garrison flag to incoming commander Col. Reginald Evans.

Evans gave few remarks as incoming commander.

“I haven’t earned the right to have a long speech yet,” he said.

In his brief comments, he expressed thanks to God, his family and friends and he said he looked forward to linking with the community.

He said that Pick had planted trees that would grow into mighty oaks for the next generation.
