Vera Stewart isn’t the only one who does the cooking on her “The VeryVera Show.” She likes to bring in other chefs with a flair for flavor.
On this week’s episode, she shares her kitchen with Wes Fulmer from Motor Supply Bistro in Columbia.
Wes, a native of Prosperity, S.C., grew up under the culinary tutelage of his grandparents. His grandfather barbecued whole hogs while his grandmother made an award-winning pound cake, according to Motor Supply’s website.
“Chef Fulmer values fresh, local South Carolina ingredients and enjoys mixing traditional culinary processes with modern techniques like sous vide and fermentation,” the website said.

Fulmer has been featured in “The Local Palate” magazine, mentioned in “Food and Wine Magazine” and most recently in “Okra.” Also, he and his team put Motor Supply in the No. 5 slot in “Southern Living’s” 2019 readers’ poll of The South’s Best Restaurants.

In 2017, he was “one of the featured chefs at Columbia’s first-ever James Beard Foundation benefit dinner,” the website said.
This week’s appearance isn’t the first time Fulmer has been on “The VeryVera Show.” He was on the show in 2019 as well.

For this episode, he brings his spin on some of the favorites from his restaurant — a bone-in pork chop https://www.veryvera.com/recipes/recipe/bone-in-porkchop/ with spoonbread https://www.veryvera.com/recipes/recipe/spoonbread/ crispy fried Brussel sprouts https://www.veryvera.com/recipes/recipe/crispy-fried-brussels-sprouts/ and tomato jam, https://www.veryvera.com/recipes/recipe/tomato-jam/
Vera said she’s excited to air this show because Columbia is one of her newest markets this season.
While Wes has a bulk of the show, Vera keeps one of her favorite segments — Vera’s Corner, where she will roast pumpkin seeds to give you a great idea for a healthy snack.
“The VeryVera Show” airs at 12:30 p.m. Thursday and 5:30 p.m. Nov. 21 on WJBF NewsChannel 6.

Next week, the show will focus on Vera’s hometown of Macon.
And don’t forget to try some of Vera’s recipes, post them to social media and get them VERAfied. In coming weeks, I’ll be trying some of them out. Wish me luck!
