In The Kitchen With Vera: Celebrating family time

Vera Stewart makes s'mores with her grandchildren.

Date: September 08, 2022

I am thrilled this week to be at the home of my son John and his wife Mallory as we introduce our viewers to a unique cooking and lifestyle element: Sea Island Forge.

Their hand-forged kettle makes cooking for your family and experience for all to enjoy and can also add a bit of warmth if the evening becomes a bit cooler.

The beauty of this kettle is the ability to prepare food in stages and to marry flavors as the layer of the meal comes together. Getting the fire going early so that the sweet potatoes can be buried in the hot coals is a flavor you have to experience! Probably the best sweet potato I ever tasted.

Next up were the oysters and clams that steamed quickly from the heat and the fact that the grate swings back and forth made this a unique experience and provided the perfect environment to remove them safely from the heat. Steve brought the biggest steaks you can imagine from his home in St. Simon’s and to say they were perfectly cooked would be an understatement. He also introduced us to his “side-kick” and it wasn’t his wife, although they do spend an enormous amount of time together. This was a swinging arm that allowed the introduction of another pan to cook a side dish. And of course, fresh asparagus is seasonal right now, and the smoky flavor is fantastic with this method.

John and Mallory have loved having the kettle in their seating area and on a cold winter night or a summer sleepover in the backyard for the girls, the thought of s’mores is just a few ingredients away from reality.  We had a lot of fun with this on the show!

If you would like more information on Sea Island Forge and their other products, please check them out online but better yet, tune in this weekend!
