The residents of the Summerville area of Augusta are no stranger to petty crime. The last several months have been riddled with incidents of theft from parked vehicles.
On Dec. 16, this wave of theft hit neighborhood favorite, Sheehan’s Irish Pub, located at 2571 Central Ave.
At approximately 2:30 a.m., according to the restaurant’s security cameras, someone used a rock to break through the front door window.
The individual then dove through the opening and headed straight for the register behind the bar, removing the till and leaving through the broken window.
The incident lasted only a few minutes.
Jovany Gertler, owner of Sheehan’s, said the alarm was never triggered.
An employee arrived hours later, saw the broken glass and immediately phoned the authorities.

“They were in and out in two minutes,” Gertler said. “They had two lookouts. One on the intersection where Monte Sano is and one down Central.”
The extent of the loss for the restaurant was minimal, with the suspects making off with only somewhere between $300 and $500 in cash from the register, according to Gertler.
The stolen till was located in the early part of the afternoon, less than two miles away at the Magnolia Park Apartments.
Members of the community came together to show support for the beloved neighborhood restaurant, and it was standing room only last night after the morning break-in, according to Gertler.
