The teenage girlfriend of an alleged gang member now accused of murder in a child’s death was denied bond Thursday, April 14, on charges she conspired to smuggle her jailed boyfriend a cell phone and took part in illegal gang activities.

Kurizima S. David, 18, was arrested March 25 on charges of conspiracy to commit a crime and violation of the Street Gang Terrorism Prevention Act.

During her Richmond County Superior Court bond hearing, Assistant District Attorney Kevin Davis said David lied when asked in January where her boyfriend Henri Beach was. He said she lied even though she knew Beach was a suspect in two drive-by shootings at Dogwood Terrace in which two children were wounded on Jan. 6 and 8-year-old Arbrie Anthony was killed on Jan. 8.

The prosecutor said after Beach’s arrest in January, David continued to play a role in the Loyalty Over Everything gang’s financial crimes and helped Beach coordinate other criminal acts by arranging three-way calls for Beach from jail, Davis said.

David also served as a key actor in smuggling a cell phone to Beach in jail, Davis said. She handed off the $2,000 to a deputy as payment for taking the cell into the jail, the prosecutor said.

Defense attorney Jimmy Walker asked the judge not to weigh Beach’s alleged crimes in deciding on bond for an 18-year-old who was in love. Like most 18-year-olds, she made some bad choices, but she also has no criminal history, Walker said. David graduated from high school and was taking college classes online to become a medical technician, he said. She’s only been a patsy in the LOE crimes, Walker said.

Judge John Flythe denied bond for David. She will remain in jail pending possible indictment and trial.
