Date: March 03, 2023

A New Ellenton police officer shot at an armed driver who led them on a chase while drunk Thursday afternoon, sparking a SLED investigation.

Brandon Williams, 36, of Aiken, was not injured by the gunfire. He was eventually captured and charged with DUI, failure to stop for a blue light and unlawful carrying of a pistol. He was also charged with driving under suspension and habitual traffic offender. He has an extensive history of driving on a suspended license and weapons offenses.

“Following a traffic stop that resulted in a car chase, a New Ellenton police officer shot a firearm at an armed man,” a SLED press release says. “This officer involved shooting is an ongoing investigation.”

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division conducts law enforcement officer-involved shooting (OIS) investigations at the request of the agency involved in the incident or the agency with jurisdiction.

The incident in Aiken County was the 6th officer-involved shooting in South Carolina in 2023.
