Photojournalism: 100 Black Men of Augusta Thanksgiving Basketball Classic

Butler defeated T.W. Josey High School Friday during the 100 Black Men of Augusta Thanksgiving Basketball Classic 68-44.

Led by Kedar Bodie and Marcus Scurry Jr., Butler led at the half 33-21.

The 28th annual tournament opened Friday at Augusta University’s Christenberry Fieldhouse with five boys’ high school basketball games scheduled throughout the day. The Butler-Josey game was the second on the slate.

On Saturday, four match-ups between girls’ high school teams are scheduled during the day, kicking off at noon with state champion Josey against Evans; at 2 p.m., Butler will take on Augusta Christian Schools; at 5 p.m., Greenbrier plays Putnam County, and at 7 p.m. Laney will be up against Baldwin County.

The tournament is a fundraiser for 100 Black Men of Augusta and its mentoring programs.

Admission to the tournament is $12.

Charmain Zimmerman Brackett is a lifelong resident of Augusta. A graduate of Augusta University with a Bachelor of Arts in English, she has been a journalist for more than 30 years, writing for publications including The Augusta Chronicle, Augusta Magazine, Fort Gordon's Signal newspaper and Columbia County Magazine.
