Things are staying busy at the different parks in Columbia County.

During the Recreation Board meeting on Friday, May 19, Wes Horton, Columbia County parks operations manager, told board members park maintenance has been busy with athletics and events taking place, including the monthly Food Truck Friday event.

“Wildwood is rocking and rolling,” Horton said. “School ends next Wednesday, so typically starting that Thursday we are pretty much sold out during the week. Wildwood has basically been sold out every weekend before Masters week. Even the glamping continues to basically sell out every single week.”

Janet Wheatley, events manager for Columbia County, said there are several events coming up. Columbia County night at Broad Axe will be Thursday, May 25, and the cost is $15 per person for two hours. Food Truck Friday is also taking place June 9 at Eubank Blanchard Park in Appling and June 23 at Evans Towne Center Park. Summer Beach Blast will be Saturday, June 3 at Evans Towne Center Park and Screen on the Green will be Friday, June 16 at Lakeside Park.

“In July, we’re doing kayaking at Betty’s Branch,” Wheatley said. “So, we’ve got that open for people to come out and learn a little about kayaking…Our markets are still going, every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. until the end of June in the plaza… and then of course Boom in the Park is on July 4.”

Pam Royal, manager for Savannah Rapids Pavilion and exhibition center, said Savannah Rapids Pavilion has hosted several big events, including prom for Grovetown and Harlem. She said the parking lot work is coming along and while the asphalt isn’t down yet, but it’s getting close. The Columbia County Exhibition Center is holding a coin show this weekend and a military ball will also be held.

The next Recreation Board meeting is scheduled for Friday, June 16 at 9 a.m.
