The company that manages and operates the Savannah River Site is putting out the call for IT professionals.

Savannah River Nuclear Solutions is holding a recruitment fair on Friday, June 10 from noon to 7 p.m. It will be in the Palmetto Terrace on the fourth floor of the North Augusta Municipal building at 100 Georgia Ave.

IT managers along with subject matter experts, HR representitives and recruiters will be on site.

“Our goal is certainly to meet the people that we want to hire from entry level all the way up to late career experience, and actually will even have folks representing the apprenticeship program there,” said Bryan Ortner with SRNS Workforce Services. “So, folks that maybe are still in school or don’t have an IT background that are interested in learning more, we will be there to talk about apprenticeship opportunities as well.”

Ortner said they want to meet with anyone with a background or interest in IT jobs, but they are especially interested in people with a background in cybersecurity, network engineering, system engineering, and software engineering or software development.

He said people with a background in cyber security are in especially high demand because they have a valuable skill set that is also very portable. That means SRNS is competing in the nationwide marketplace of available applicants.

Information from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows the high demand.

“Employment of information security analysts is projected to grow 33 percent from 2020 to 2030, much faster than the average for all occupations. About 16,300 openings for information security analysts are projected each year, on average, over the decade.”

Ortner said one advantage SRS has its location in the CSRA.

“We have the military installations around us which that is a big market, big target for us to find those transitioning vets and their spouses that are getting out of the military, or maybe they just relocated here for their military career and their spouse is looking for work,” he said, combined with educational institutions. “Every school in the area from Aiken to the Low Country, all the way up to Columbia then you’ve got everything over in Augusta, two-year schools and four-year schools.

He expects many of the up to 30 positions they hope to fill will be some type of hybrid, sometimes working in an office, other times working from home. Some of that will be determined by security needs for SRS as a Department of Energy facility.

Ortner said successful applicants will have to undergo background checks, beginning with a standard pre-employment check and a drug test.

“There are going to be positions that do require security clearance down the road. So those folks will, in time have to kind of go through a second layer screening security check,” he said.

Ortner recommends anyone attending the recruitment fair on Friday bring copies of their resumes and any certifications. He said it is job offers could be made on the spot for the right candidates.
