Search Underway for Missing Boaters

Date: April 26, 2021

Multiple agencies are involved in the search for two missing boaters in Lincoln County.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources said the search began yesterday afternoon in Little River at Cherokee Park on Clarks Hill Lake.

One man fell off a pontoon boat. The other man, on a nearby pontoon boat, jumped off his boat to try to rescue him. Neither man resurfaced. DNR Public Affairs Officer Mark McKinnon said, “We are searching with sonar equipment at this time.”

The Lincoln County and Columbia County Sheriff’s Offices are assisting. Also on scene is the dive team from the Columbia County Fire Department.

The names of the men are not being released until families are contacted or the men have been recovered.
