A ribbon cutting at the Salvation Army’s Kroc Center marked the reopening of the senior lounge Feb. 7.

In partnership with Wellcare, which provides information on health care plans including Medicare, the lounge is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday for people 60 years old and older.

“At our Kroc Center, of course, we have tons of other programming going on like our aquatics and our workouts area,” said Captain Jonathan Raymer, Augusta Area Commander. “But the lounge specifically has games and computers for resources, that kind of stuff to be able to help with our seniors just be able to connect. It’s just another opportunity as a safe and fun place where seniors can come together and just have fellowship with one another.”

A lively crowd of seniors was on hand for the Monday morning ribbon cutting, marking the reopening of the lounge.

Jeanette Scott of Augusta was among the first to enjoy the new facility.

“I am a golden ager, and this is a place where we had for when I first started coming. I love my seniors. I’m the youngest senior in the whole group, but thank the Lord, I just love coming and meeting the elderly and talking and having fun and fellowship. We just love on each other. That’s what we do,” said Scott.

The Golden Agers is a group that meets at the Kroc Center at 10 a.m. on Mondays. The group offers a variety of activities for seniors including socialization through Bible study, crafts, exercise and educational workshops.
