Slim Chickens, along with the Columbia County Chamber of Commerce, hosted a ribbon cutting for the year-old business Monday morning.

The restaurant, located at 4311 Washington Road in Evans, is the first, and only, restaurant in Georgia, said Jim Bennett of Peachtree Development and Investments, who owns the restaurant with Rust Skalla. The concept for the restaurant came out of Fayetteville, Ark., and a client of Bennett’s in Florida introduced them to it.

“Through that we built a couple of restaurants, loved it, loved the response from the community so much that we decided to bring it here to Georgia, “ Bennett said. “… we signed a large franchise deal in Georgia, just over the Savannah River in South Carlina and on down the cost. We’re excited to be part of the Slim Chickens Family.”

The restaurant opened in August 2021 during COVID, which Bennett described as “a little dicey.” But they got through it and said the community response to the restaurant has been great, and they are looking at opening few more stores in the CSRA.

“We’re just glad to be here in Evans and Columbia County, and we’re looking to grow some other units here in close proximity to this location,” Bennett said.

The restaurant is looking to get involved with the community as it grows, and that includes working with schools, churches, and larger businesses, said Jamie Scott, the director of operations for the store.

Slim Chickens serves sandwiches, tenders, wraps, and the ever-popular jar desserts that Scott described as “addictive.”

“The jar desserts are one of our big, big ideas that just really draw people into the door,” Scott said. “We have these cheesecake jars that we cut fresh every day…you’re not going to go wrong anything with a chicken tender, we’ve got 17 different sauces you can chose from and then throw a jar on before you leave the door, you’re going to do just great.”

Slim Chickens is located at the corner of Washington Road and North Belair Road. They are open Monday – Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and the drive-thru is open until 10 p.m. For more information, call 706-434-8872 or visit https://slimchickens.com/location/evans-ga-4311-washington-rd-30809/.
