Aiken County authorities have captured a Graniteville standoff suspect that led to three schools being on lockdown Tuesday.

The suspect was identified as 20-year-old Zaylan Paige. He was initially believed to be in a home on Gentle Bend Court, but when authorities searched the home late Tuesday afternoon, he was not inside. He was captured nearby near Byrd Elementary and Leavelle McCampbell Middle School after authorities received several phone calls from concerned citizens who spotted him.

The standoff resulted in hard lockdowns at Leavelle McCampbell Middle School, Graniteville Elementary and Byrd Elementary.

The call originally came in to authorities at noon for a disturbance call for an assault in progress with an armed suspect. When deputies arrived at the Graniteville home, the suspect ran back into the house. Multiple law enforcement officers responded and surrounded the house.

Now that he is in custody, a search warrant is being executed at the home, where authorities reportedly recovered a gun. Paige is facing domestic violence and kidnapping charges. His girlfriend is reportedly the victim.

Paige has a pending charge from 2020 for obstructing justice.
