Do you love beer and wish you could find a place in town that stocked more than just the average fare? Wish no more. World of Beer on Washington Road caters to hops-and-barley connoisseurs.

Established in Tampa, Fla. in 2007, World of Beer has grown from a craft beer bottle shop to a full-service restaurant chain with locations around the United States. The gastropub offers a wide selection of beers and has a food menu to suit many tastes.

Be sure to arrive early to get a good table. The restaurant is a popular place and was slammed the night I visited. If the parking lot is full when you arrive, you will find ample parking in the adjacent Kroger shopping center.

When you walk in the door the first thing you see is a massive bar that dominates the back wall of the building. Behind the bar is a huge glass cooler full of bottles and cans. Dozens of taps pour ice cold IPAs, ales, sours and a few standard draft beer choices. To view the menu, you must use your phone to scan the QR code on the table tent.

For al fresco dining, you may request a table outside. For those who come to see live music, the seating area is expansive. High top tables and comfortable stools fill the space while booths run the length of the windows. The exposed brick walls and subdued lighting create the relaxing ambiance. It’s a perfect atmosphere for a dinner with friends.

The menu is loaded with choices, so be sure to bring your appetite. You may want to try more than one item on the menu. That is exactly what we did.

We started our meal with the German pretzel, a massive appetizer complete with stone ground mustard and, for a small upcharge, a side of beer cheese. For dinner, we split an order of dry rub wings that arrived to our table with a unique flavor both spicy and sweet. I highly recommend them if you’re a wing fan.

The wait staff is friendly, fast and efficient with an enthusiasm that is contagious. Multiple bartenders handled the busy night with ease.

World of Beer offers free entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights with musical genres running the gamut from rock to jazz to blues and all points in between. Several local artists are in the monthly rotation and draw a crowd of fans each night that they play.

The Acoustic Soul Brothers played to the packed house on Saturday, June 12. The duo brought a soulful, blues-infused sound to the stage. Singer-guitarist Greg Fortune and percussionist Kigwana Cherry launched into their set with the Tracy Chapman classic “Give Me One Reason.” Their vast repertoire included songs by Ray Charles, Bill Withers and Bob Marley. Their energy is infectious. Check them out next time they play.
