Train derailment Friday morning

A train derailed Friday morning in the CSX railyard on Columbia Nitrogen Road near Bobby Jones Expressway.

Several cars overturned near where Bobby Jones Expressway crosses over the site.

According to Sgt. William McCarty with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, there were no injuries or hazardous materials released in the incident. Also it did not cause any traffic issues.

“We will provide any assistance they request but this is not being handled by our agency. Any inquiries should be made to CSX Railroad,” McCarty wrote.

CSX Crews were on the scene before noon to begin cleaning up the site.

Calls have been made to CSX.
